AEL - www.ael.org
  • AEL is a nonprofit, regionally oriented education research, development, and service institution. Its mission is to link the knowledge from research with the wisdom from practice to improve teaching and learning. AEL works closely with schools, school districts, and states to develop, test, and refine practical products and processes that address needs expressed by local educators. Resources thus developed are then available to others working on similar problems.  Links include:   regional laboratory, ERIC clearinghouse, National Science Foundation projects, Math/Science consortium, Region IV Comprehensive Center, Technology in Education consortium, products and pbulications, and training and conferences.  Includes a brochure which can be downloaded titled "Planning Schools for Rural Communities."

  • This site, from the National Science Foundation, is a "unique learning experience that integrates health information, health resources, and career opportunities ... for students ages 12 to 18."  It includes information for teachers and does require you to log in. 
Interactive Health Modules:    These tutorials, found at the National Library of Medicine MEDLINEplus site, are interactive health education resources from the Patient Education Institute. Using animated graphics each tutorial explains a procedure or condition in easy-to-read language. You can also listen to the tutorial. NOTE: These tutorials require a special Flash plug-in, version 4 or above. If you do not have Flash, you will be prompted to obtain a free download of the software before you start the tutorial.    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • This Health Science Curriculum Online from the National Institutes of Health/National Science Foundation is a "unique learning experience that integrates health information, health resources, and career opportunities.   It is designed for students ages 12 to 18.  The curriculum consists of scenarios based on topics such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.  It emphasizes the importance of understanding one's personal health risk factors, the science behind the risk factors, and the interdisciplinary nature of science.  The scientific information includes inherited patterns of disease and the rationale behind healthy life habits.  Students explore the family and community risk factors to determine their own health risks to make appropriate lifestyle changes. "

  • This free service is available to any teacher and is being funded by Annenberg/CPB.  These mentor teachers will help you find resources on the Internet such as projects, activities, lesson plans, etc.  They are available to help plan a project, locate penpals, help you with using just one computer in a classroom for a project, etc.
