Psychology and Counseling Caucus


The mission of the Psychology and Counseling Caucus shall be to:
  1. Provide a forum for professional and social communication, interchange and networking for individuals in the academic and applied fields of Psychology.
  2. Assess needs for and organize, plan and cosponsor continuing education programs for caucus members to increase the occupational competency of professionals who provide psychological services.
  3. Support and facilitate student recruitment and training in Psychology and mental health.
  4. Encourage and share psychological research activities and interests.
  5. Assure liaison with the Western Maryland Area Health Education Center and its other professional caucuses and with other psychology-related educational and professional organizations to advocate for improved health care services in the Western Maryland region.
  6. Improve community awareness of and sensitivity to issues of psychological health.
  7. Seek to be an advocate for recipients of mental health services in the tri-state area.
  8. Provide a forum and mechanism for the recognition of outstanding contributions within the field and profession of psychology.

Active members of the Psychology and Counseling Caucus shall fulfill the following Qualifications:

  • Individuals who hold a Doctoral degree (e.g., Ed. D., Ph. D., Psy. D.) in a field which is predominantly psychological in nature and content, determined by comparison with standards utilized by the Maryland Board of Examiners and Psychologists.
  • Individuals who hold a Master's degree in a field which is predominantly psychological in nature and content, determined by comparison with standards utilized by the Maryland Board of Examiners and Psychologists.
  • Individuals who hold a minimum of a Master's degree in a field which provides services in mental health and is recognized as meeting standards of a Maryland Certification and Licensing Board, including school psychologists and professional counselors.
  • Or, individuals who hold a post-graduate degree in a field which delivers mental health services (i.e., educational psychology) may petition the Caucus for membership and be voted on accordingly by the Caucus.

Meetings
