 The mission of the Western Maryland Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a community-based organization, is to improve access to and promote quality in health care through educational partnerships with centers of higher education, community health professionals, and other vital supporters and advocates. Its service areas are the Appalachian counties of Western Maryland--Allegany, Garrett, and Washington--and the surrounding tri-state area. Some of the activities of the WMAHEC are clinical education for health professions students, health careers education for middle school, high school, and college students; facilitation of continuing education programs for regional health professionals; learning resource services; support for off-campus undergraduate and graduate programs; and organization of coalitions and task forces on priority concerns about health care. |
